Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, including Environmental Engineering, Geologic/Geotechnical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Engineering Science.
  • Level 1 requires no prior work experience; Level 2 requires a minimum of 6 months to 2 years of engineering experience.
  • Level 2 requires proof of passage of the Fundamental Engineering Exam.
  • Extensive knowledge of civil engineering practices, with specific emphasis on traffic engineering and operations.
  • General knowledge of traffic control logic, intersection layout, and study techniques for analyzing problems and facility needs under existing and future conditions.
  • Working knowledge of standards, techniques, and engineering alternatives in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, AASHTO policies, and the Highway Capacity Manual.
  • Skill in using engineering instruments, including Diamond automated speed counters and MioVision Cameras.
  • Skill in using hand drafting tools and computers.
  • Skill in using MicroStation-CADD, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Highway Capacity software, SIDRA, and Synchro.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be provided if selected for hire.
Responsibilities
  • Perform professional traffic engineering studies in urban and rural roadway environments.
  • Identify traffic control needs for roadways, intersections, and freeway interchanges.
  • Provide technical traffic engineering assistance to headquarters and district offices, local governments, and the general public.
